Methodology & data limitations
What this is
A data-journalism tool showing fares observed from permitted sources. It is not a booking service and not a complete measure of the market.
What we compare
- Fares are compared only with fares at the same booking horizon (days between observation and departure), grouped into 60, 45, 30, 21, 14, 7, 3 and 1 days.
- Direct and connecting flights are never mixed; unknown stop counts are excluded rather than assumed direct.
- Cabin classes, trip types and materially different fare inclusions are never mixed.
- Fares are stored in INR. The USD view is a display conversion at the European Central Bank reference rate, with the rate and its date shown on the page.
Minimum samples
- At least 5 comparable observations before any minimum, median or maximum is shown.
- At least 8 distinct observation days before a percentage change is shown.
- At least 30 observations per horizon before booking-window conclusions are published.
- Missing data is shown as missing, never as zero, and prices are never estimated or back-filled.
Indexed comparisons
Indexed charts set the first date with data in the selected window to 100 and state that baseline date on the chart.
Limitations
- Cached fares from aggregators reflect what users recently searched, not every flight or fare class, and can be days old.
- Routes with little search activity may have sparse or no data.
- Price changes are reported, not explained. We do not attribute them to fuel, demand or holidays without evidence.
- History begins from the day collection started; we do not reconstruct earlier prices.
